Thinking of Place
ToP
The Thinking of Place collaborative project originated at IMPACT8's international print media conference in Dundee, Scotland in 2013. Antonietta Covino-Beehre, Laurel McKenzie, Prue MacDougall and James Pasakos who each presented papers, exhibited artworks and portfolios at the conference, met and connected. From there an immediate friendship grew and discussion about a group project ensued. The intention was to bring artists from our respective localities in Australia and New Zealand together around the theme of 'Thinking of Place', and the journey began.
Artists were asked to submit new works that reflected on their personal identification with place in relation to ancestral connections, regional and cultural associations, heritage, natural and built environments. A paper size of 28x38 or 38x28cm was specified, and any print medium was accepted. This portfolio consisted of 54 limited edition prints, and was exhibited at:
KickArts Contemporary Arts in Cairns, Queensland, Australia 8 June - 25 July 2015 (part 1) and 8 June - 18 July 2015 (part 1)
Eastside Gallery in Christchurch, New Zealand 29 June - 18 July 2015
Depot Artspace, Auckland, New Zealand 29 August - 16 September 2015
Post Office Gallery, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, 6 April - 21 May 2016.
The tour was a success and the momentum was continued with planning for Thinking of Place ii.
